We appreciate all the work you continue to do to support your children with Distance Learning. We would all rather be back on campus and many have settled in to a routine, others are finding it more of a struggle to keep their kids motivated and on track. Our community partners, Project Hope, are holding an internet connectivity event to help families register for free and reduced-cost wifi Tuesday and Wednesday at K Smith from 10:30-12:30. Please come see us if you need support!

Hopefully you got a chance to see last week's Newsletter about how our K Smith Habits look through on-line learning. This week, we'd like to share the At-Home learning version with you. Your child's teacher will use these Habits as a teaching tool to support their distance learning.

As you all know, the K Smith Habits are the foundation of our school. They are the skills and mindsets we believe all students need to be successful in life. All 6th graders must submit proof of a Tdap immunization before attending 7th grade. With schools closed, please read the story for details on how you can meet this requirement before the end of this school year.

Grab and Go lunches are served from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at six schools: Evergreen Elementary, Holly Oak, Montgomery, Katherine Smith, Norwood, and OB Whaley.

Contributing globally is an important part of our mission here at Katherine Smith. We believe thee are many components to this Smith Habit, but the first is applying work to the world. This can take the form of organizing people, challenging the status quo, leading change, fundraising, making something beautiful, or creating awareness..just to name a few.

Giving and receiving feedback is an important part of improving the quality of our work. To give high quality feedback, we need to: be specific, helpful, and kind - recognize strengths - want to help others - suggest useful next steps - hard on the content and soft on the people.

Have you ever heard someone say, "I can't do it," when faced with a challenging task? It happens all the time and reflects a fixed mindset: the idea that we are either good at something or we aren't. We have all felt this way before and yes, there may be some things we aren't able to do right now, but what if we simply added, "yet" to the previous statement-"I can't do it, YET."

Quietness gives one strength. When we have a "place" of solace, safety, and quiet, then creativity, imagination, and self-expression emerge naturally. One way we to feel safe is when we have a quiet, safe place physically.
